Mark Skertic

Mark Skertic was born in East Chicago, Indiana, and raised in neighboring Hammond. Like many in the area, most of his family made their living working in The Region's mills. He first learned local history from his grandfather, the late Joseph Klen, a one-time state legislator and mayor of Hammond.

Currently a reporter with the Chicago Tribune, he moved back to Northwest Indiana in the late 1990s. His newspaper career has encompassed covering the Calumet Region for the Chicago Sun-Times, editing and reporting for the Times of Northwest Indiana, and several years with the Cincinnati Enquirer.

In his free time, Mark, his wife Alison, and their two daughters enjoy exploring the dunes, hiking, and spending time on the beach.

Mark Skertic is available to speak on
the following topics and related subjects:

• Dispelling the Top 5 Myths of Northwest Indiana
• Outdoor adventures and family recreation
• History of The Region's cities, towns, and famous residents
• Best places to dine, shop, and relax in the three-county area
• Why Chicagoans and others should explore Northwest Indiana

Skertic's Books:
• A Native's Guide to Northwest Indiana
